Daniel Weinman topped a record-shattering field of 10,043 players to win the 2023 World Series of Poker Main Event and $12.1 million. Weinman, a former poker pro who now works as a software engineer for a tech startup, admitted he nearly didn’t play in the tournament.
“I was honestly on the fence about even coming back and playing this tournament,” he said. “To win this Main Event, it doesn’t feel real. I thought I played very well, but so many hands that [I got] incredibly lucky for the situations to arise.
One of those hands was an all-in confrontation where Weinman held pocket jacks against the pocket kings of Josh Payne and the pocket queens of Jose Aguilera:
Weinman doesn’t plan on playing poker professionally again any time soon — in fact, he was back at the office on Friday.
