St. Louis native Jason Simon outlasted a field of 23,088 entries to win the $300 Gladiators of Poker, earning $499,582 and a World Series of Poker gold bracelet.
“It was awesome,” Simon beamed after the victory. “I primarily play mixed games — but maybe I’ll play some more tournaments after this.
Simon started the day fourth in chips and fell dangerously low before mounting a comeback that ended with him topping the second-largest field in live tournament poker history.
“I never really panicked,” Simon told reporters. “I found a double and went up from there.”
